Trappeto
The Sicilian coastal town of Trappeto is a small fishing village on the Golfo di Castellammare. As you drive through the town on the SS187, the first impression may initially be somewhat disappointing. However, the most beautiful areas of this small village with less than 3,000 inhabitants, are located closer to the sea. So it is highly recommended to leave the SS187 and visit the old part of Trappeto.
The village is much smaller than the coastal town of Balestrate, located only 4 kilometers away, but it has several nice shops, bars and restaurants. The busiest part of the coastal town is the promenade, where you can enjoy wonderful sea breezes, stunning sea views (Golfo di Castellammare) and a delicious home made gelato from one of the bars and ice cream shops in the village.
Trappeto has a new port, but also in the old harbor you often see the typical blue and white fishing boats of the town’s fishermen. It’s also the old little harbor where many Sicilians are looking for ricci di mare near the rocks in the water. These sea urchins are sold to the local restaurants and are mainly used in pasta dishes. The old port district is a lovely area for a stroll through the narrow streets of Trappeto and the many vistas will result in dozens of beautiful holiday pictures.
There are two beautiful sandy beaches, one in the east of the village and one in the west. In the summer months there are several lidos (where you can rent umbrellas and sun loungers). However, the main part of both beaches are free of charge.
The coastal town has a train station, so also if you’d like to explore Sicily by train, you can easily reach this Sicilian seaside town.
